Your admissions testing do not define you…dear students…

Dear students who just received their SAT scores,

You may have logged into Collegeboard on your phone this morning or last night and saw a few numbers that held more meaning than the simple digits on the screen. You may have breathed a sigh of relief…or you may have felt your stomach drop. Drop because it is not what you expected. Drop because this was going to be the last SAT you were ever going to take. I say this to you.

You are more than the numbers. More than the score that comes from those numbers. In fact, those numbers do not tell the entire story. You see, they do not disclose the hours, days and weeks of practice on the field. They do not tell the countless lines you have memorized for the school play. They do not show the million pieces and algorithms that turned into a win at the robotics competition. They are simply numbers. One component of your application. One indicator of success…not THE indicator of success. You define your success, not a score.

So as you scroll through your results for the tenth time, wishing the numbers could magically change into something else, remember this…

You have barely begun to scratch the surface of the greatness you will achieve in your life. And while you will certainly see those “numbers” again at some point in your future, you will not fret. Because you’ve seen them before. And it has not been the sole defining moment of your career. And you know you will continue to move forward and reach success…in whatever capacity that looks for you.

Sincerely,

Ms. Rowley
